I do want to understand. I don’t want to lump you with the people who do horrible things in the name of Islam. I am hearing you say yours is a peaceful religion. Please explain the peace behind these verses.

KORAN commands to kill infidels:

Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. - Sura 2:98

On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. - Sura 2:161

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

KORAN promises of houris in heaven:

Single-minded slaves of Allah… will be honored in the Gardens of delight, on couches facing one another; A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, white, delicious to the drinkers, wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. Lo, for those who ward off evil is a happy journey’s end, Gardens of Eden, whereof the gates are opened for the, wherein, reclining, they call for plenteous fruit and cool drink therein. Lo! Those who kept their duty will be in a place secure, amid gardens and water-springs, attired in silk and silk embroidery, facing one another…. And we shall wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. They call therein for every fruit in safety. They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell, a bounty from thy Lord. That is the supreme triumph. - 44:51-57

We have created them a creation, and made them virgins, lovers, friends. - 56:11-37

Koran "sharia" punishments:

As for the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands as punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah. - Surah 5:38
newcomer: no, i did not read each verse in context. i had in mind the bit about virgins and the command to kill unbelievers, so i did a search on the internet and all of those came up in one shot. thank you for your idea to get an authentic copy of the qu’oran. i do know that people (as evidenced here) take all sorts of things out of context in the bible to prove their "point", and that doesn’t make sense either.

of course i copied and pasted (whoever insulted me for that); i do that a lot when i need a reference to back up my point; what’s the point in retyping it all, or even in commenting without showing my resource?

As Layla said… look for the Tafsir…
Not all of Quran is supposed to be taken literally…
And us Shiat Muslims believe that there are two things that never ever separate… The Quran, and the Ahl Al-Bait (the Prophet’s decedents)… and it was said by the prophet, to seek the knowledge of the Quran from his Ahl Al-Bait…

  2. Brett A Says:

Go Away… Born Again Blind, maybe…

The ‘Holy’ Bible advocates the KILLING of 2/3s of ALL HUMANITY – me, just because I accept tons of scientific evidence over zero evidence of any of humanity’s “Gods.”

BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: KILL UNBELIEVERS - Acts 3:23 … "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear the prophet, shall be destroyed."

BIBLICAL DEATH PENALTY: KILL UNBELIEVERS - Chronicles 15:12-13 (NIV) … They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

  3. Esther V Says:

Why is Brett A comparing himself against Christianity while not explaining his(I guess)religion?

  4. sweet p Says:

I explain it that the koran does say that-but when a person choses to reject Jesus as savior and predicted to be almighty God with us, who says to love your enemies even as you love yourself and share the gospel with them

to me it is easy to see why some claim to believe the koran but reject the truth or try to claim whatever-then deception grows from there.

this is how I came from rejecting Jesus salvation to knowing him=yet then again when we reject the salvation of Jesus as I once did you can believe just about anything=it breaks his heart when we reject Jesus

He even had his birth predicted 700 years before he came

Isaiah 9:6 Unto us a child is born a son is given and he will be almighty God the wonderful counselor and the prince of peace."

Many others say the bible has been changed but why would those of my Jewish people that reject their own Messiah Jesus and claim it will be another-leave this in their Jewish Scriptures=because it is God’s Word and none can change it.

there is a real heaven and as Daniel 12:2 says a hell of abhorance forever -Jesus said so too=Revelation 19-22nd chapters and described the joy of heaven and the agony of forever in hell for rejecting his salvation too=

    why not believe Jesus Words

He said if we reject his words, my words shall judge you in the last day at the judgement." John 12:48

Mathew 24 Jesus says hell is gnashing teeth and weeping forever & its Revelation 19-22nd chapters that describes the joy of heaven and agony of hell

this is what happened when I let the Words of Jesus save me=Revelation 3:19&20 "I love you and ask you to repent (even of one lie) and Behold I stand at your heart door and knock if you hear my word, and ask me in, I will come in and be your friend and you mine.
Jesus offers us to be our best friend-It happened for me that day when I prayed, "Jesus thank you that you love me and offer to come into my heart and be my friend, I am sorry for my sins, please come in, amen."

praying the best for you too inner peace and joy evermore on earth and in heaven too knowing Jesus as your savior and best friend as he asks, even with trial He will always come through for you, David

  5. I love 12 gods Says:

if it would be legal Christians would annihilate any non believer so it would be the same as what Muslims are being taught!
Christians and Muslims have been killing in the name of their precious God for a very long time !

so why this question of yours????

isn’t it just to exhibit your dislike for another religion ???

    sad - just sad

  6. The Catalyst Says:

Similar things are written in the bible too, and if you believe everything in the bible literally , you are called fundamentalist.

Same thing with Islam, if you believe the rules written 4000 years (I might wrong with years) ago, letter by letter, you may not a true believer of holy Quran.

Let’s drop all the added thoughts of the person who wrote the Quran, let’s drop all the limitations and misunderstanding the person had, what do you get? You get Allah, whose true nature must be endless love and compassion…

For us non-born Islams, I recommend you to read Sufi’s teaching, really beautiful and moving.

  7. Layla Says:

I am glad that you can cut and paste

It is sad that you can not also read

When you take a few verses out of context then you lose the meaning

When reading the Quran you should :
    1. read all of it
    2. have an open mind
    3. look for Hadith (this will help to explain what was going on when Revelation was received
    4. look for Tafsir (to see how educated people interpret what was reveled)

  8. newcomer Says:

OK, first tell me did someone gave you these verses or did you read each of them from Quran and in correct context ?. Each of these verses are related to a certain context and in post 9/11 era everyone seems to judge this religion by picking out specific verses. My advice is if you really want to know then get an authentic copy of Quran and/or contact your local area mosque (islamic center) and ask to speak to an Imam. Furthermore have you read any other verses from Quran.

  9. MUHAMMAD Says:

He it is who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are firm and decisive in meaning - they are the basis of the Book - and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking to cause discord and seeking wrong interpretations of it. And none knows its right interpretation except God and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, ‘We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.’ - And none take heed except those gifted with understanding -

    Holy Quran

  10. Star-guy Says:

BrettA makes the excellent point that all "holy" books of the God of Abraham call for the death of non-believers. The God of Abraham has always loved a good war. None of His religions is for the meek. Blessed are the meek because they cook-up so tender.

Layla and newcomer, yes, taking verses from their context is not fair. Yet, we can judge Islam by the actions of the members and reaction of the other members. If OBL is not your hero, work diligently to deliver him to the people he has wronged. If he is your hero, admit it and pick up a sword. This back and forth about "my religion is more peaceful than yours." lacks a certain sincerity in light of the barrels of blood all three religions have poured into the sands of the middle east. If blood became oil, we would never run out.

Hey, bornagain, great rant. It even had a question with it. But, it was still a rant..

  11. Tina Says:

    Dear
A cult leader must act this way for his cult to survive.

Why do you think Hitler killed the Jews?
No one said that he was a Prophet!

It is the mentality of a Cult leader, so do not bother telling the followers that they are wrong! They can kill you!

Serious if anyone talks about their Cult the leaders are allowed to kill you!

So i wouldnt worry about it, You can only save yourself!

  12. davidm Says:

    That’s becuase its not!

    God Bless

  13. LottaLou Says:

Even though Islam is derived from Shalom; it is OK to lie, steal & kill for the cause of Islam/Allah.

Jesus came to fulfill the law. Gods law of liberty is to love God & love others & to also love enemies.

Jesus is the new covenant. The old covenant is between God & Israel. And the New covenant is between God & those who believe in Jesus Christ as revealed in the Gospels. Islam denies Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God; the cross, and the resurrection from the dead. So, that is why they sort of add to the law of sin & death. So, they are rejecting the law of Grace & choosing the law of sin & death.

Jesus was victorious over evil people murdering innocent, by being a victim of mans worst sinful nature to show us this. It is our worst sins nailed on the cross. So, Jesus raised from the dead because Jesus was without sin.

But I look at cults as religions who deny Christ & add rules. And yes, they are antichrist & they martyr true born again Christians.

  14. MrMyers Says:

I didn’t intend to answer this question since I am not Muslim and in fact I am not answering it but am commenting on the answers.

The context of the Old Testament verses that Brett A mentioned is a one time event. The killing was intended to purge the nation of Isreal. But there are no verses in the Bible that say we are to kill non-believers now in present day. Jesus said that we are to love our enemies and pray for those that persecute you. Not to kill infidels and renegades!

Does the church have a bloody history? Yes! I dont agree with the Crusades nor could I argue that burning heretics and witches is the right thing to do. The history of the church paints a horrible picture of Christianity. I am sure individuals have painted a bad picture of Christianity also.

However, according to the asker (because I didnt look these verses up) the Koran makes it clear that good Muslims kill unbelievers or their enemies. She wants to know how they reconcile these verses with a message of peace.

I came here to read a Muslim response and ended up including my two cents!

  15. ShakeelAhmad Says:

Once Shiekh Ahmed Deedat explains a point with an example:

at one point in the bible there is a verse where David says:

    There is no God.

all were surprised, what? David said? There is no God,, then one of the people said to Sheikh Deedat "You are not reading the full verse…..

then shiekh deedat said, "this is the thing i want to explain

the full verse is "They are fool who says there is no God"

    ———————

Did you see the difference of Text and the Context…

my brother, these verses should be read with their complete context……

    …………….

and one other thing,, if you have made such a hardwork (which you made above) without extremism, you would have found the truth.
