One person’s economic success is not necessarily another person’s economic loss. Punishing financial success does not elevate the condition of the general population as a whole.
They think punishing success and rewarding failure is better.
"Redistributing the wealth" = BS! Awww, are you sad that your income isn’t as high as Tom across the street? Well, instead of whining and complaining to your beloved government, get off your @$$ and bust @$$
Because they truly believe that the government is the only answer. Many do not believe that most individuals are capable of taking care of themselves or creating their own wealth..
You are half right. If you are going to "equalize" the financial playing field, you should elevate the poor, not diminish the rich.
You are correct that success in capitalism does not necessarily mean loss and exploitation for others, but the problem is that many times it does.
Both American pseudo-capitalism and this newfangled American pseudo-socialism do a lot more harm than good.
They are unable to comprehend numbers! In college they take touchy-feely courses like psychology, art, music, and basket weaving. They stay away from math and logic!
This is a little too abstract for liberals. At their level of intelligence, they are more comfortable poking fun at someone who is a little bit different from them, such as George Bush or Sarah Palin.
That little piece of crap has sustained the Republican party for too long. When the vast majority of wealth is owned by such a small number of people, it is very hard on the economy and on all but the very wealthy. And pretty soon, the wealthy are going to run out of people to sell their products to when the average person can no longer afford to buy things.
Truer words were never spoken. I guess they don’t understand how wealth is created. They think most wealthy people simply walk back and forth to their mailbox to collect their monthly dividend check.
I understand it quite clearly actually…but what you seem to be ignorant of is that a person’s "success" is relative and that NO ONE is punishing success whatsoever. What we should be focusing on is curtailing EXCESS (aka greed!). There is a HUGE difference here but you seem more intent on playing partisan games of semantics using straw man and slippery slopes arguments.
I am what you would probably call a "liberal" and I do comprehend the concept of wealth creation: the workers create the wealth through their hard work. That wealth is then taken by the "owners" (who do little if any work).
And here is the heart of our misunderstanding of one another. You think we want to punish the rich for their success. We see it differently. When it comes to taxes (as I’m assuming this relates to), many see it as the wealthy have been given an inordinate level of tax breaks, unfairly so, simply because they make more money. Why should they pay a lower % simply because the total gross they pay in is more? From our point of view, we are simply asking for what we see as fair, we are not asking for punishment.
People make money, more power to them… that doesn’t mean they should get undue breaks in their civic duty of paying taxes.
Maybe it is just a difference in point of view… but hopefully you at least now understand this point of view better.
That is what mystifies me… taxing the wealthy 1% an additional 3% for crazy stuff like healthcare and paved roads?
Is that the punishment you are talking about?
Of course the class understands wealth creation, trickle down, yadda yadda… but do you understand that in the past 6 years the economic environment has spun out of control and it put us in a recession.
I would like to see drfeelgoods facts but they don’t understand that the top one percent of America pays over 40% of the taxes. The top ten percent pay over 90% of the taxes. These taxes pay for schools, roads, and government organizations.
Says who? Bernie Madoff was successful and he went to jail. Show me a CON that made it all on his own and I will show you a Bernie. Why do CONS believe that it is OK to rip people off and then consider that guy a success.
Part of the problem is the current state of capitalism. Much of the wealth being created in this country is from financial speculation without adding to the economic activity through investment in projects that provide a useful economic function.
Investment in manufacturing, real estate development, or other useful economic functions provides jobs, opportunities for development in the supply chain and other economic advantages. The worst robber barons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries made steel, or built railroads, etc. Today the capitalists are nothing more then money changers.

Because many liberals think one should not make money out of thin air.

Because they fail to engage in critical thinking and open-mindedness when anything goes against the grain of their beliefs. As seen by their lack of presence here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ar4xSg1AOmJNLDeiUSXt3ynsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100102113948AAPeLTF

yet overrunning of greed and huge increases in the top 1% of wealth does help the population as a whole how???

If they have seen it, then they only inherited it from someone that knew how to create it.

I always like to ask a liberal this question:
"Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person?"
Just watch their facial expression when you ask them. It’s like a deer in headlights.

Poor deluded fools.
